Smith will delve into his research on the origin and fate of the universe and explain some of the most pressing mysteries physicists are tackling today, such as the dark matter that appears to dominate the cosmos and the dark energy that is driving the universe’s rapid expansion. “We’ve only just recently been able to learn really fundamental facts about the universe we live in and we don’t really know what we’re going to find next,” Smith says in a video trailer for the lecture. “As a species it’s worthwhile for humans to understand our place in the universe and how the universe was born and how we all got here. I think the answer is worth knowing. I see part of my job as sharing the answer.” The public lecture will be viewable on this page as well as here.
